Astros Make Short Work of Darvish to Take Series Lead

The Astros had a strong start to game three thanks to a big second inning that wound up being the deciding factor in a 5-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers to take a 2-1 series lead.

Minute Maid Park started rocking in the bottom of the second with a leadoff home run from Yuli Gurriel out to the Crawford Boxes to take an early lead. The Astros weren’t done though with Marwin Gonzales hitting an RBI single out to left field to get Josh Reddick home from second base to make it 2-0.

Bregman made it 3-0 later in the inning with a sac fly to center field to send Marwin Gonzalez home safe. After a double from Jose Altuve, Yu Darvish’s day was done after one and two-thirds of an inning of work. The Astros wound up with some pitching trouble as well with Lance McCullers walking the bases loaded, but wound up limiting the damage to one run thanks to some solid defense on a double play off of a grounder from Corey Seager.

Evan Gattis put in what was the final nail in the Dodgers coffin in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a throwing error from Tony Watson to get Reddick home, making it 5-1.

First pitch for game four of the World Series is scheduled for 7:20 pm. The Dodgers will send out Alex Wood and the Astros will start Charlie Morton.
