Louisiana Softball Receives Commitment From Power Five Transfer

Posted by clintdomingue on June 17, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

The hits just keep on coming for Louisiana Ragin Cajuns softball with another power-five transfer joining the fold in Geana Torres. This is the third power-five transfer that the Cajuns softball program and will be available for the 2020 season.

Torres, a rising sophomore, spent the 2019 season as a utility player at Missouri and started in 29 games. She amassed a .294 batting average, four home runs and 13 RBIs in her lone season with the Tigers.

“Geana has a very pure left-handed swing and also has the potential to develop into a very dangerous power hitter,” Glasco said in a release by the university on Monday. “She will provide us with added depth at several key positions, as she can catch, play the outfield or cover first base if needed.”

She was also a member of the 2017 Puerto Rico Junior national team, batting .344 with eight runs scored and three RBIs over 29 at-bats.

The Rochester, New Hampshire product was phenomenal at Spaulding High School hitting .460 with 92 hits, 56 runs, 66 RBI, a .505 on-base percentage and .695 slugging percentage.

Torres is the fourth transfer to be added to Louisiana’s roster since the 2019 season wrapped up with a disappointing loss to the Ole Miss Rebels. She joins fellow Missouri teammate Callie Martin (Jr., OF, Raymore, Mo.), Oregon’s Mia Camuso (Jr., IF, Redding, Calif.) and Miami Dade College transfer Melissa Mayeux (Jr., IF, Le Barcares, France) who were introduced on June 5.

This also comes a few days after second baseman Casidy Chaumont announced on Twitter that she would be transferring to the Mizzou Tigers.
