Homecoming is always an entertaining game, and tonight was no exception as Louisiana hosted South Alabama. The Cajuns found themselves down 17-7 in the fourth quarter and ripped off 10 straight points before Diego Guajardo hit a walk-off 44 yard field goal to win it for the Jaguars 20-17.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a wild start to the game that included a Cajuns interception that was fumbled by the Jaguars and recovered by Louisiana, Eric Garror put the Cajuns on the board with a 69-yard punt return at the 7:53 mark of the first quarter.

South Alabama would answer late in the first half when La’Damian Webb found the endzone to tie the game with less than three minutes to go until halftime.

Interceptions thrown by both Ben Wooldridge and Carter Bradley would lead to a Kenneth Almendares missed field goal to end the first half.

Diego Guajardo hit a 38-yard field goal to make it 10-7 South Alabama with 8:29 left in the third.

Carter Bradley increased the Jaguars lead with a three-yard touchdown scamper to push it to 17-7 South Alabama with 12:53 remaining.

After a Kenneth Almendares field goal, Ben Wooldridge found Pearse Migl for a two-yard touchdown to tie the game at 17. Bradley would then lead South to the 27 yard line where Guajardo won it on the time-expiring field goal.

BIG NUMBER: 44

Guajardo’s 44-yard field goal as time expired gave South Alabama their first ever win at Cajun Field and put the Cajuns in a 2-3 hole overall.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Diego Guajardo

Guajardo redeemed himself from the game last year in Mobile, accounting for eight of the Jags’ 20 points, including the walk-off field goal.

UP NEXT: Louisiana (2-3) will travel to Huntington, WV for a weeknight, primetime matchup vs Marshall. Kickoff for that contest is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
