In the state of Louisiana, college softball has a standard of excellence.

Whether it’s the Tigers, Cajuns, Cowgirls, Lions, or Bulldogs, there are usually a handful of in-state schools in the mix when the postseason rolls around.

D1Softball unveiled their 2023 preseason softball rankings, with Louisiana and LSU representing the Bayou State. The Tigers came in at 17 while the Cajuns were in the poll at 20.

LSU returns five key players with Ciara Briggs, Taylor Pleasants, Ali Kilponen, Georgia Clark, and Daneica Coffey all being named in the Top 100 by D1Softball and ExtraInnings. The Tigers also added two local products from Notre Dame with Abigail Savoy and Maci Bergeron joining the team this year.

Meanwhile, for the Cajuns, they return 11 contributors from a season ago with a roster that has sky high expectations for 2023. Opening the season playing nine Top-25 matchups and four in the top five will be a tough challenge for Gerry Glasco’s group.

Both programs open their seasons on February 10.
