Paul Skenes is the SEC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season. He was also named a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball for the sixth time in 2023.
The Lake Forest, CA product took care of Auburn on Friday, the Tigers’ lone win in that series, pitching a season-high 7.1 innings with six hits, no runs, and a career-high 15 strikeouts.
Skenes became the first LSU pitcher to throw 15 strikeouts in a game since Tyler Jones did it in 2011 against UNO. It was the first 15-punchout performance in a conference game since Anthony Ranaudo recorded 15 strikeouts against Auburn in 2009.
With his win over Auburn at Plainsman Park, Skenes improved to 9-1 on the season and currently leads the nation in strikeouts with 139. He leads the conference in ERA (1.73), innings pitched (72.2), and opponent batting average (.165).
