The LSU Tigers women’s basketball team defeated the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 85-57 on Sunday afternoon inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The win keeps LSU undefeated at 12-0 and the loss moves the Cajuns to 4-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game began with both teams struggling to get into a rhythm offensively. They traded baskets early, and LSU was able to take a small lead as the quarter progressed. By the end of the period, LSU led 16-11.

The size and length of the Tigers gave the Cajuns fits, who were shorthanded without Jaylyn James and a couple of other contributors. Jersey Wolfenbarger had a big half, securing a double-double before the break. LSU took a 36-19 lead into the intermission.

Louisiana tried to make a couple of runs in the third, and got the lead down to 13. Tamiah Robinson made a couple of threes and looked to get the Cajuns back in it. However, the Tigers were able to answer the run and maintain their lead by the end of the quarter. They took a 60-42 lead into the final period.

The Tigers wore down the Cajuns and the Tigers’ stars finally heated up late in this one as well. They held on for an 85-57 win.

BIG NUMBER: 31

The Tigers outrebounded the Cajuns by 31, 53-22. That size was a problem in multiple facets and Louisiana could not keep up in that regard.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jersey Wolfenbarger

The unlikely scoring source, she had 18 points and 15 rebounds. The Cajuns didn’t have an answer for her and she made them pay.

UP NEXT: The LSU Tigers will play Seton Hall on Tuesday in the Basketball HOF Showcase at 5:00 PM. The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will play Auburn at the Cajundome on Wednesday at 11:00 AM.
