Alex Bregman will no longer call Houston home.

The former LSU star and All-Star third baseman for the Houston Astros signed with the Boston Red Sox. Multiple media outlets reported that Bregman was inking a three-year, $120 million deal with the Red Sox, with him having the ability to opt-out after each season. He will also reportedly move from third base to second base for Boston.

It was reported that Bregman had multiple offers from Major League Baseball teams. That included a six-year, $171 million deal from the Detroit Tigers (where his former Astros skipper AJ Hinch is coaching), a six-year, $156 million deal from the Astros, and a four-year, $120 million deal from the Chicago Cubs.

The Red Sox equals an average of $40 million per year salary for Bregman, which is far more than what the offers from Cubs ($30M), Tigers ($28.5M), and Astros ($26M).

In his nine seasons in Houston, Bregman hit .272, with 1,132 hits, 191 home runs and 663 RBI. Bregman was also a two-time All-Star (2018, 2019), one-time Gold Glove Award winner (2024), one-time Silver Slugger (2019), and helped the Astros to four World Series appearances, winning the title twice (2017, 2022).

In his three seasons with the LSU Tigers, Bregman appeared in 190 games, earned All-American honors twice, batted .338 with 87 walks, and was a Golden Spikes Finalist in 2015 when he helped the Tigers advance to the College World Series.

The Astros selected Bregman with the No. 2 overall selection in the 2015 MLB Draft, and he would become a key member of the Astros’ core group of everyday players (Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, George Springer, and Bregman). That group would lay the foundation for the franchise becoming one of the best in MLB. The only one that remains with the Astros is Altuve.
