Houston Astros’ right-handed pitcher Spencer Arrighetti was named American League Pitcher of the Month for May, the league announced on Wednesday.
The nod comes after Arrighetti wrapped up a dominant month, posting a 0.93 ERA across five starts. The Astros’ starter gave up just three earned runs all month and only allowed a .165 opposing batting average.
Arrighetti played his last season of college baseball with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, enjoying a breakout campaign that led him to being drafted by the Astros. In his season with UL, he had a 3.12 ERA with 91 strikeouts in 83 2/3 innings of work.
For the season, Spencer has a 1.34 ERA and a 7-1 record.
Tonight, Arrighetti matches up against former LSU Tiger Paul Skenes as the Astros take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM and you can listen to the action on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles.
