The Houston Astros selected a pair of players in Saturday’s MLB Draft.
Houston took Texas Tech’s Logan Hughes with the No. 17 overall pick and then picked Notre Dame’s Jack Radel with the No. 28 overall pick on Saturday.
Hughes is coming off back-to-back stellar seasons for the Red Raiders. He leaves Lubbock seventh all-time in home runs (37). His 19 home runs in 2025 and his 18 home runs in 2026 are seventh and eighth in a single season in Red Raiders’ history.
The 5-foot-11, 211-pound outfielder finished the 2026 season with 50 base-on-balls, the 10th-most in a single season in school history. He earned All-American honors from multiple outlets in 2026 and is a two-time All-Big 12 first-team selection.
Before Texas Tech, Hughes played one season for Stetson, where he started 46 games for the Hatters, hitting eight home runs and had 34 RBI.
Radel, who was drafted due to the Astros receiving an incentive pick due to Hunter Brown finishing third in the AL Cy Young Award, is coming off a season where he earned first-team All-ACC honors and third-team All-America honors from both D1Baseball and Perfect Game.
This past season for the Fighting Irish, Radel went 8-3 with a 3.29 ERA, pitching in 87.2 innings and striking out 116 hitters. In his three seasons at Notre Dame, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound right-hander went 19-10 with a 3.71 ERA, 211.0 innings, 215 strikeouts, and 59 walks.
