The Houston Astros fell to the Athletics 7-6 on Sunday afternoon inside Daikin Park. With the loss Houston drops to (65-66) and have now lost three straight divisional series.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Astros sent Christian Javier to the mound for his fourth start in the month of August.
The A’s countered with Brady Basso, but Houston wasted little time getting to him. Isaac Paredes brought home the game’s first run with a sacrifice fly before José Altuve followed with a two-run home run to give the Astros an early 3-0 lead.
Basso’s night came to an end after just one inning, with Jack Perkins taking over for the A’s in the second. Perkins struggled to find the strike zone, loading the bases with four consecutive walks before forcing in another Houston run to extend the Astros’ lead to 4-0.
Houston added to its advantage before the A’s began to fight their way back.
Brian Serven started the Oakland comeback in the fifth inning with a three-run home run to left-center field, cutting the deficit to one.
A pair of base hits later in the inning set the stage for former LSU Tiger Tommy White. White lined a two-run single into right field, scoring two more runs and tying the game at 6-6.
The A’s completed the comeback in the seventh.
Max Muncy broke the deadlock with a solo home run to center field, giving Oakland a 7-6 lead.
The A’s bullpen held the Astros scoreless over the final two innings, allowing Oakland to hold on for the victory and complete the comeback.
