The search for a new head coach for the New Orleans Pelicans is now over.
The Pelicans have hired Warriors Associate Coach Alvin Gentry to be the Head Coach for the New Orleans Pelicans.
Gentry and the Pelicans reached a deal on Saturday choosing a former head coach of the Pistons, Heat, Clippers, Suns, and Lakers over one of the other finalists in Jeff Van Gundy.
The Pelicans are said to have chosen Gentry because they wanted to pick up the pace and be more creative to accentuate star Anthony Davis’ talents he has as a big man and the athletes on the roster around him. The Pelicans were 27th in pace this past season under Monty Williams, which led the Pelicans to a playoff appearance but had a quick exit after a 4-0 rout against the Warriors in the first round.
Gentry now becomes the sixth head coach in franchise history. Alvin Gentry will complete the season with the Golden State Warriors in their pursuit of an NBA title against the Cleveland Cavaliers in a best of seven series starting on June 4th.
