The Midsummer Classic saw the American League take control early on and were able to weather a late rally by the National League to win the 2019 All-Star Game by the score of 4-3.
How It Happened
The American League took control in the bottom of the second with a two-out double by Michael Brantley to score Alex Bregman. Jorge Polanco made it a 2-0 ballgame off of an RBI single, scoring Gary Sanchez.
The National League finally got on the board with a solo shot to center field by Charlie Blackmon in the sixth inning to cut the deficit in half. However, the American League extended their lead in the bottom of the seventh that was highlighted by Joey Gallo ripping one out to right field to make it a 4-1 ballgame.
Pete Alonso, who won the home run derby just 24 hours prior, got the National League within one run with a two-out, two-run single to left field. Aroldis Chapman was able to finish the job though in the ninth by striking out the side.

The American League has dominated the Midsummer Classic in the last ten years, taking seven of the last 10 All-Star games. That really shows how the AL has really started to take hold of the MLB.

The Houston Astros led the league with four starters on Tuesday night and made a little history in the progress with the AL’s first three hits coming courtesy of George Springer, Alex Bregman, and Michael Brantley. It’s the first time in the history of the All-Star Game that one club accounted for the first three hits by a league’s All-Star team.
