The Houston Astros announced that they avoided arbitration with six players.
Houston has agreed to terms on one-year contracts with relief pitcher Bryan Abreu, starting pitcher Luis Garcia, outfielder Chas McCormick, outfielder Kyle Tucker, starting pitcher José Urquidy and starting pitcher Framber Valdez.
Thursday was the deadline for clubs and arbitration-eligible players to exchange filing numbers.
The Astros did not agree to terms for the upcoming season with infielder-outfielder Mauricio Dubón.
Abreu pitched 72 innings, going 3-2 overall, 5 saves, 100 strikeouts, and had a 1.75 ERA. Garcia was sidelined for most of the season with an injury but did make six appearances going 2-2 in 27 innings of work.
McCormick appeared in 115 games, batted .273, scored 59 runs, 22 home runs, and 70 RBI. Tucker appeared in 157 games, batted .284, and scored 97 runs, 37 doubles, 29 home runs, 112 RBI, and 30 stolen bases.
Like Garcia, Urquidy was sidelined for most of the season with an injury but still appeared in 16 games, pitched 63 innings, going 3-3 overall, 1 save, and 45 strikeouts. Valdez meanwhile went 12-11 overall with a 3.45 ERA, 198 innings pitched, and 200 strikeouts.
