The Astros returned back to Houston for game six of the World Series following the three-game road trip in Philadelphia.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kyle Schwarber was walked to start the game. He got out on his way to second base on a double play as Rhys Hoskins hit a grounder to third base. Bryce Harper was the final out as he hit right to Houston shortstop Jeremy Pena.

The Astros’ first few innings at the plate couldn’t record a hit. Pitcher Framber Valdez though struck out all three batters at the top of the third.

Trey Mancini recorded the first Astros hit at the bottom of the frame with a single out into the right field. Chas McCormick grounded with a fielder’s choice that got out Mancini. McCormick would get stranded at second base as Martin Maldonado was called out at first and Jose Altuve struck out swinging.

Valdez retired Harper, Nick Castellanos, and Edmundo Sosa between the fourth and fifth inning.

The first run of the contest was a solo home run by Schwarber to begin the sixth inning that went 395 feet over the right field wall.

At the bottom of the sixth, Yordan Alvarez responded with a 450-foot three-run shot over center field to give the Astros the two-run advantage over the Phillies. It started with Maldonado getting hit by a pitch and getting out on a fielder’s choice as Altuve made it to first base. Jeremy Pena then hit a single that advanced Altuve to third to set up Alvarez. Houston added one extra as Christian Vasquez hit an RBI single out into the left field Alex Bregman’s run made it 4-1.

Altuve tried to extend the lead even further in the seventh but was left stranded as Pena struck out to end the inning. Hector Neris came in to relieve Valdez at the top half of the frame as struck out two batters.

The Phillies had one last shot in the ninth inning. Ryan Pressly came in to finish the game as Hoskins, Harper, and Castellanos all hit pop flies that were caught out as the Houston Astros secured game six of the World Series and are your 2023 world champions.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Yordan Alvarez

Alvarez gave Houston the lead at the bottom of the sixth inning with a three-run homer over the center field wall and eventually be enough for the Astros to win the World Series.

BIG NUMBER: 12

The Astros bullpen combined for 12 strikeouts in game six of the World Series as nine come from Framber Valdez in six innings.

UP NEXT: The world-champion Houston Astros will be back for the opening day of the 2023 MLB regular season.
