Big Fourth Inning Key to Cajuns Softball’s Win Over Texas State

Posted by clintdomingue on May 9, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

Heading into the bottom of the fourth, it looked like the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns were in a dicey situation against the Texas State Bobcats, the team that beat them in the Sun Belt Tournament last season. However, they responded with a three-run frame en route to a 4-3 win over the Bobcats.

How It Happened:

Texas State wasted little time getting on the board when Christina McDowell scored off of a sac fly by Hailey MacKay. The Cajuns evened things up when Julie Rawls scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch.

The Bobcats took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth when Molly Damiani scored on a wild pitch, but the Cajuns responded in the bottom frame with a three-run inning that was highlighted by an RBI double from Lexie Comeaux. Things got interesting when Texas State tried to rally back with an RBI single from Mari Cranek cutting the lead down to one run, but Summer Ellyson was able to shut it down after that.

Big Number: 8

Texas State gave the Cajuns some free passes on Thursday afternoon and that was a big reason why things got out of hand, especially in the fourth inning with six walks and two hit batters.

Player of the Game: Summer Ellyson

Ellyson has been on fire all season long and Thursday was no exception with a complete game effort and struck out six for her 35th win of the 2019 season.

Next Up: Friday vs Coastal Carolina; First Pitch at 11 am
