The LSU Tigers softball team defeated the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 8-0 on Tuesday night inside Lamson Park in Lafayette. With the win, LSU takes the season series 2-0 over Louisiana.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Louisiana went with Julianne Tipton in the circle. She navigated around an infield hit to post a zero in the first frame.
LSU went with their ace Jayden Heavener to start. She worked a 1-2-3 bottom half of the first, matching Tipton’s zero and keeping the game scoreless through an inning.
To start the second frame, Tipton walked the bases loaded. That prompted Alyson Habetz to make a change, going to Bethaney Noble in the circle. Noble gave up five runs, including two on an RBI double from __ Harris and a two-run home run by Jalia Lassiter. Before the inning ended, Louisiana had once again made a change, this time going to Sage Hoover in the circle. She finished the frame with LSU leading 5-0.
The Tigers would tack on another run in the third, this one on a hit by pitch that brought in a run. They followed that with two more on a two-run homer from Char Lorenz in the fourth.
Throughout this stretch, Heavener kept the Cajuns in check. She tossed a no-hitter, using the eight-run rule in five innings to defeat them 8-0.
BIG NUMBER: 8
The Cajuns’ pitching staff issued eight free passes in this game, starting with three to load the bases in the second inning. LSU, on the other hand, only issued one.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jayden Heavener
Heavener tossed a five-inning no-hitter in this game. She was effective, and ensured the Cajuns’ lineup could not get anything going.
UP NEXT: UL will remain home to host Coastal Carolina for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series beginning on Friday. LSU will return home to host Ole Miss in a three-game SEC series, also beginning on Friday.
