A few hours before first pitch on Tuesday, DJ Sanders was announced as the Sun Belt player of the week for three home runs in each of the three games against Troy this past weekend.
She showed why she deserved the honor out of the gate with a grand slam in the bottom of the first to increase her home run total this season to 20, a career high. That was the first of many runs for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (30-5) as they took down Southeastern Louisiana (19-20) by the score of 13-5 in five innings.
The Lions responded with one run off of a fielding error from Sanders that would score Ali McCoy. That would be as close as they would get as the Cajuns put up seven runs in the third inning.
Southeastern was able to get three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but were unable to get it under eight runs to extend the game after Ali Daigle would hit a fly ball to Aleah Craighton.
Alyssa Denham improved to 12-1 on the year allowing one run off of one hit and struck out three in three innings of work.
The Cajuns will travel to San Marcos to take on Texas State (29-8) with first pitch on Friday set for 5 pm.
