After the season that the Houston Astros have had, it should be no surprise that they would come away with at least one more piece of hardware.
Jose Altuve was named the MVP for the American League by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America by a very wide margin on Thursday afternoon. The second baseman received 27 of the 20 first-place votes after another stellar season that was capped off with a World Series championship.
In the 2017 season, Altuve racked up a .346 batting average, .410 on-base percentage and accumulated 200 hits for the fourth straight season. Altuve is in rarified air, being only the second Astro in franchise history to be named MVP as recent Hall of Famer Jeff Bagwell earned the award back in 1994.
