After taking a tough loss last weekend to UL Monroe, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (12-7, 3-3 Sun Belt) needed to start this week’s slate of games inside the Cajundome on the right foot. It wasn’t easy, but they were able to come away with an 88-84 win over South Alabama (9-11, 2-5 Sun Belt).
How It Happened:
For much of the first half, it was an early back and forth between the Cajuns and the Jags until the halfway mark when the Cajuns were able to maintain a slim lead. South Alabama was able to make take a brief lead with 2:59 left until the break, but a big three-pointer from Jerekius Davis helped Louisiana take a 41-39 lead into the break.
The second half started much like the first with both teams playing hot potato with the lead early on. The Jags started to take hold of the lead though and made it 70-67 with 7:53 left after a layup by Herb Mcgee. That changed after the final media timeout thanks to some clutch three-point shooting by the Cajuns.
Big Number: 44.4
The Ragin Cajuns have been a team that lives and dies by the three-ball and thankfully, they were able to put together a solid performance behind the arc, shooting 44.4 percent.
Player of the Game: JaKeenan Gant
Gant does it again. Anytime he’s on the court, he is a threat that teams need to prepare for and that was exemplified on Thursday night with 28 points, eight boards, one assists, three blocks, and a steal to boot.
Next Up: Saturday vs Troy; Tipoff at 7 pm
