The offense came alive once again on Tuesday night with a big 7-2 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, highlighted by a good performance at the plate by CJ Willis.
How It Happened:
The Cajuns got on the board in the top of the first with Ben Fitzgerald hitting an RBI single to score Tyler Robertson. The Bulldogs responded in the top of the second with Jorge Corona hitting an RBI single to right-center to tie things up, but that didn’t last long with Sam Riola giving Louisiana a 3-1 lead courtesy of a two-run double in the bottom frame.
The Cajuns made it a 5-1 lead over Louisiana Tech in the third with a pair of runs, highlighted by an RBI double by CJ Willis. Tyler Robertson continued his hot streak in the sixth with an RBI double towards the warning track in left field, making it a 6-1 ballgame.
Steele Netterville was able to chip away at the deficit in the top of the seventh with a groundout to shortstop that scored Taylor Young, but the Cajuns were able to stop the bleeding and increased their lead after Fitzgerald scored off of a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory
Big Number: 6
While the Cajuns pitching staff limited the Bulldogs to two runs in the last seven days, one of the big points made after the game was the walks allowed on Tuesday night. It’s something that Deggs mentioned after the game that they need to improve after giving away six free passes.
Player of the Game: CJ Willis
The LSU transfer continues to find his way in the lineup and was pretty consistent on Tuesday night, going three-for-three with three doubles and an RBI. Willis had a great day at the dish and might be a bigger part of the lineup before long.
