The prophecy came true. In 2014, Sports Illustrated put out an issue with George Springer on the cover and the bold statement that the Houston would be the 2017 World Series champions.
The Astros started out strong offensively and relied on Charlie Morton on Wednesday night in relief to give the city of Houston their first World Series title after a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Astros wasted little time getting on the board with George Springer scoring from second base after Cody Bellinger committed a throwing error in the top of the first off of a hit from Alex Bregman. Jose Altuve increased the Astros lead later in the inning with a grounder to Cody Bellinger to score Bregman.
Springer, who would be named the World Series MVP after the game, wound up putting the final nail in the ballgame with a two-run bomb out to center field to make it 5-0.
Charlie Morton was credited with the win with four innings of work allowing one run off of two hits, one walk, and struck out four.
