The Los Angeles Dodgers seemed poised to take a 2-0 series lead on Wednesday night after a two-run bomb from Corey Seager to left field in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. However, the Astros weren’t about to back down from a challenge.
Carlos Correa began the rally in the top of the eighth with an RBI single to centerfield to cut the lead to 3-2. Marwin Gonzalez tied things up in the 9th with a leadoff line drive home run out to center field.
The Astros bats continued to show some power in the top of the 10th with back-to-back jacks from Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa to take a 5-3 lead into the bottom half of the 10th.
Yasiel Puig had a rebuttal to the Astros home runs with a line drive home run of his own to start off the bottom frame and cut the lead to one run. Ken Giles wound up putting runners on first and second, leading to Enrique Hernandez hitting an RBI single to knot things up.
After a leadoff single from Cameron Maybin, George Springer headed to the plate. Up to that point, the centerfielder had been in the midst of a 3-for-30 slump in the ALCS and went 0-for-4 in game one of the ALCS.
Springer bounced back with a 3-for-5 performance including what would be the game winner with a two-run bomb out to right center field to give the Astros a 7-5 lead. The Dodgers added a little bit of suspense with two outs left and a solo shot from Charlie Culberson made it a 7-6 ballgame. However, Chris Devenski was able to get the last out with a changeup to even up the series at 1-1.
The World Series will now move to Minute Maid Park for the next three games starting on Friday. Yu Darvish will take the bump for the Dodgers while Charlie Morton will start for the Astros. First pitch is set for 7 pm.
