From the first time they picked up a bat, many baseball players had a dream that they would make it to “The Show”. When it comes to former LSU Tigers, ten of them are on Major League Baseball rosters as the 2019 season gets jumpstarted.
The former Tigers on various rosters include Alex Bregman and Will Harris with the Astros, DJ LeMahieu over in the Bronx playing for the Yankees, Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola, Kevin Gausman with the Atlanta Braves, outfielders Jacoby Jones and Mikie Mahtook with the Detroit Tigers, Nick Goody with the Cleveland Indians, Nick Rumbelow for the Seattle Mariners, and outfielder Andrew Stevenson playing with the Nationals.
Bregman, who played for LSU from 2013-2015, is beginning his third full season as the club’s starting third baseman and is coming off of an outstanding 2018 campaign highlighted by nabbing All-Star Game MVP after a game-winning home run in the Midsummer Classic.
LeMahieu will be wearing the pinstripes for the first time in his career after spending most of his career with the Colorado Rockies.
Nola is coming off of a stellar 2018 where he finished third in the NL Cy Young Award voting and will be the opening day starter for the Phillies.
The Tigers legacy of getting players into the big leagues is nothing short of impressive with at least one former player making their MLB debut in 25 of the last 28 seasons.
