Heading into the seventh inning, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (29-22, 15-10 Sun Belt) looked like they were about to come away with another win against Texas State (24-25-1, 12-14 Sun Belt), but the Bobcats fired off four runs in the bottom half of the seventh to come away with a 6-5 win to even up the series.
How It Happened
The Bobcats came out of the gates strong with a two-out single by Luke Sherley that resulted in him reaching home plate after a muffed throw by Kole McKinnon to take an early 1-0 lead. Sherley struck again in the bottom of the third with another RBI single, scoring Jacob Almendarez.
Things started to turn in favor of the Cajuns though in the fifth with Tyler Stover getting them on the board with a one-out RBI single. Three more runs came across later in the inning, capped off by an RBI double from Hunter Kasuls to give them a 4-2 lead.
Stover got another run across in the sixth with a sac bunt to Anthony Pagano, scoring Zach LaFleur. However, the wheels fell off in the bottom of the seventh with Nick Lee allowing a pair of two-run bombs from Sherley and Derek Scheible, respectively.
Lee dropped to 1-6 on the season allowing four runs off four hits and walked one in two-thirds of an inning of work.
Big Number: 3
The three errors by the Cajuns was another poor showing by the defense, including a pair of them in the same play in the bottom of the first wound being huge for the Bobcats.
Player of the Game: Gavin Bourgeois
Bourgeois had a great showing on Saturday with a three-for-four outing, bumping his average up to .310 on the season.
