What a rough ending to the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (29-23, 15-12 Sun Belt) road trip in San Marcos, losing the rubber match to Texas State (25-25, 13-14 Sun Belt) on Sunday by the score of 8-6.
How It Happened
The Cajuns scored early and often in the first starting with Daniel Lahare scoring off of a bases loaded walk. Before the first frame wrapped up, they put together three more runs capped off by an RBI single from Jonathan Windham.
The Bobcats responded though in the bottom frame when Austin Perrin walked Ryan Newman with the bases loaded, making it a 4-1 ballgame. The scoring continued in the second inning when Hayden Cantrelle scoring off of a double play ball by Hunter Kasuls.
The tide turned once again in the bottom of the second when they hit a pair of home runs from Dylan Paul and Luke Sherley. Things went from bad to worse though with Texas State taking the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run inning highlighted by a two-out RBI single to right field by Jared Huber.
The Bobcats struck again with another two-out RBI single by Dylan Scheible to make it a 7-5 ballgame. Dalton Shuffield slammed the door shut in the eighth with an RBI triple out to center field.
Jack Burk dropped to 3-6 on the season allowing three runs off of six hits, walked one, and struck out one in two and two-thirds of an inning of relief.
Big Number: 2
It was another less than ideal performance this weekend by the Cajuns defensively and Sunday was the punctuation on it with two more errors on the afternoon.
Player of the Game: Luke Sherley
Sherley has been phenomenal this weekend
