Urquidy Throws Gem vs Rangers, Correa Exits with Injury

In this truncated 60-game season, it feels like the Houston Astros can’t catch a break. On the same day that former American League MVP Jose Altuve returned to the lineup, it looks like the Houston Astros have lost another big cog in the machine in Carlos Correa.

During the Astros 4-1 victory over the Texas Rangers, Correa needed to be helped off the field after fouling a ball off of the area around his ankle in the sixth inning. The former number-one pick fell to the ground after the ball struck his lower leg, and he hardly moved for a few minutes as manager Dusty Baker and head athletic trainer Jeremiah Randall came from the dugout to check on him.

Houston manager Dusty Baker said X-rays were negative, and the team should know more about Correa’s status on Wednesday.

While there was one big negative, the Astros looked great on the diamond thanks to a strong seven innings of work from Jose Urquidy, allowing only one run off of three hits for his first win of the 2020 season.

Houston wasted little time getting on the board with George Springer taking the fourth pitch he saw from Kyle Cody and launched it 455 feet to take an early lead. The Rangers evened things up in the top of the fifth with an RBI single from Ronald Guzman.

Alex Bregman broke up the tie ballgame in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single to left field to take a 3-1 lead. Martin Maldonado put the exclamation point on the victory in the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot out to left center field.
