Three Home Runs From Springer Clinches AL West Crown for Astros

The Houston Astros just needed one win to clinch the AL West for the third straight season with a 13-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels thanks in large part to a career game from George Springer

How It Happened

Springer led off the scoring with another leadoff home run in the bottom of the first to get the Astros on the board. The Angels did tie things up though in the second when Michael Hermosillo hit an RBI triple.

Springer did his thing again though in the bottom frame, this time a two-run bomb to give Houston a 3-1 lead. The Angels got another run across in the fourth off of a ground out, but the Astros centerfielder had another rebuttal with his third dinger of the afternoon and this was a no-doubter.

The Astros offense exploded in the fifth with a six-run inning that was jumpstarted by a two-run bomb from Alex Bregman to secure the victory.

Big Number: 3

Three home runs in the first, second, and fourth for Springer was the first time ever that a player has done that. A real highlight for the center fielder that has had possibly his best season to date.

Player of the Game: George Springer

It couldn’t go to any other player after what he did on the afternoon with three straight home runs.

Next Up: Tuesday at Seattle Mariners; First Pitch at 9:10 pm
