The Houston Astros offense continues to stay hot in the early going of the 2020 campaign with two home runs from the heart of the lineup pushing them to an 8-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners in the series finale at Minute Maid Park.

How It Happened

Seattle got on the board in the top of the third when Shed Long scored off of a double-play ball hit by Kyle Seager and that was followed by a solo shot from Evan White to make it a 2-0 ballgame. However, that quickly changed in the bottom frame with an RBI double from Jose Altuve and a three-run blast from Alex Bregman made it a 4-3 ballgame in favor of Houston.

Dustin Garneau extended the Astros lead in the fourth with an RBI triple out to centerfield. The offensive onslaught continued with Jose Altuve hitting a home run out to the Crawford Boxes in the bottom of the fifth. Later in the inning, a pair of RBI doubles from Michael Brantley and Josh Reddick quickly made it an 8-3 lead for the Astros.

The Mariners tried to rally in the seventh with Seager and White getting a pair of runs across but that was all they could muster up on Monday night.

Big Number: 100

Bregman’s home run in the bottom of the third was the 100th of his young career. The former LSU Tiger is currently ranked 18th in franchise history in home runs right behind fellow teammate Carlos Correa who currently sits at 102.

Player of the Game: Jose Altuve

The Astros second baseman looked great in the victory, going two-of-four with two RBIs including a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth.
