The Houston Astros (106-56) returned to action today in Game One of the American League Division Series with the Seattle Mariners (90-72). This game was full of fireworks with four home runs hit between the two teams, but Yordan Alvarez delivered a three-run walk-off home run to win it for Houston 8-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Scoring in this game started early and often for Seattle, as Cal Raleigh hit a single to right field to score rookie sensation Julio Rodriguez to make it 1-0 in the first.

In the second, Rodriguez came up once again and deliver a two-run double to increase the lead to 3-0 Mariners and later scored on an RBI single from Ty France.

In the bottom of the third, the Astros cut the lead in half on a two-run double from Yordan Alvarez, but the Mariners got both runs back in the fourth on a J.P. Crawford solo home run and an RBI double from France to score Rodriguez to make it 6-2 Seattle.

Yuli Gurriel cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a solo shot to the train tracks at Minute Maid Park to make it a 6-3 game.

Eugenio Suarez added to the party in the seventh with a solo home run of his own to left field to increase the Seattle lead to 7-3 in Game One of the ALDS.

Alex Bregman launched a two-run home run during the eighth inning to score Yordan Alvarez and make it 7-5 heading into the final frame.

In the bottom of the ninth, David Hensley and Jeremy Pena reached base and Yordan Alvarez delivered with a missile to right field for a walk-off three-run home run to win the game for the Astros 8-7.

BIG NUMBER: 13

The Mariners were able to knock around the Astros’ pitching staff for 13 base hits and seven runs in the series opener.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Yordan Alvarez

Alvarez was outstanding in Game One, going 3-5 with a two-run double and a three-run walk-off homer.

UP NEXT: The Astros and Mariners will return to Minute Maid Park for Game Two of the ALDS Thursday. The first pitch for that game is at 2:37 p.m. and you can hear it on The Game.
