In a month where the Houston Astros surged to the top of the American League West, their slugger delivered consistently. Yordan Alvarez was named AL Player of the Month, the league announced on Monday.
For the month, Alvarez batted .360 with nine home runs and 22 RBIs. This is the second time this season Alvarez has earned the award and fourth time in his career.
The Astros finished the month of July on a tear, winning nine of their last ten to finish it. They have since won their first two games in August, surging back over .500 and taking the AL West lead with them.
Alvarez remains in the conversation for the elusive AL and MLB Triple Crown. He is currently batting .330 with 35 home runs and 84 RBIs. He leads the AL in all three categories and leads all of the MLB in average and homers. In the RBI category, he trails just CJ Abrams and Sal Stewart by one.
