Louisiana quarterback Chandler Fields was named one of the eight best quarterbacks in the country for his performance in a 52-21 win over ULM on Saturday.
The Metairie native had a career night against the Warhawks to end the regular season, completing 90% of his passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 38 yards rushing and a touchdown to bring the Cajuns to their sixth straight bowl game, which is a school record.
Since taking over the starting job three weeks ago, Fields is in the top five in completion percentage (73.2%), 16th in passer rating at 163.2, and tied for 15th in passing touchdowns with seven.
The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week award will be selected from the Great 8 finalists on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was established in 1977, with the National Quarterback Award being first awarded in 1981. Over its existence, the foundation has given away over a million dollars in scholarships and university grants to help student-athletes and transform leadership on the field.
