The Houston Astros added two players to their organization on Sunday.

The 2025 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft began on Sunday, and the Astros added two new players to their organization in the first three rounds. Rounds 4-20 will be completed on Monday.

Here’s who the Astros drafted:

NAME: Xavier Neyens
SELECTED: 21st Overall
TEAM: Mount Vernon High School, Washington
POSITION: SS
HEIGHT & WEIGHT: 6-foot-4, 205 lbs.
BACKGROUND: The longtime Oregon State commit and left-handed power hitter becomes the highest drafted high school hitter Houston has selected since taking Kyle Tucker back in 2015. The Astros believe that Neyens can be developed into a shortstop, having also played third base and outfield in his prep career. Astros have a good track record of selecting shortstops in the first round of the MLB Draft, having selected Carlos Correa (2012), Alex Bregman (2015), and Brice Matthews (2023) all in the first round.
2025 HIGH SCHOOL STATS: Hit .456 with eight home runs, 10 doubles, 27 RBIs, and 49 runs scored in 28 games on the state championship team.

NAME: Ethan Frey
SELECTED: 95th Overall
COLLEGE TEAM: LSU Tigers
POSITION: Outfielder
HEIGHT & WEIGHT: 6-foot-6, 225 lbs.
BACKGROUND: After three seasons, the Rosepine High School alum had a breakout season in 2025. Frey finished second on the team in home runs, fourth on the team in RBI with 50, and was either near or at the top of other offensive statistical categories. Frey was a huge part of LSU’s offense and stepped up on numerous occasions in the playoffs to guide the Tigers to a national championship.
2025 COLLEGE STATS: 62 Games Played, 181 At Bats, 43 Runs, 60 Hits, 116 Total Bases, 13 Home Runs, 50 RBI, 29 Walks, .331 Batting Average, .420 On Base Percentage, .641 Slugging Percentage
