The Houston Astros fell to the Seattle Mariners 3-1 on Monday night inside Daikin Park. The loss is the third straight for Houston, as they remain in fifth place in the American League West.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Astros turned to right-hander Peter Lambert, who has been a big bright spot for the club so far this season. He worked a scoreless top half of the first inning.
The Mariners countered with George Kirby. Kirby also navigated the first inning cleanly, bringing us to the second still scoreless.
Seattle would get on the board first in this game. Dominic Canzone and Cole Young strung together back-to-back RBI singles, giving them an early 2-0 advantage.
Julio Rodriguez went yard an inning later with a solo shot to make it 3-0. It was the seventh of the season for Rodriguez.
Kirby’s pitch count ran up, so he only went five innings. Additionally, Isaac Paredes contributed an RBI single off of him in the fifth, making it 3-1.
The Mariners’ bullpen was lights out, however. Yordan Alvarez did come up as the tying run in the ninth off of Andres Munoz. However, he struck out swinging to conclude the game.
