George Springer has been on another level in 2019 and that was amplified this week with five home runs and an impressive 1.148 slugging percentage. That was more than enough to give the Houston Astros leadoff hitter to receive co-American League Player of the Week honors.
Springer split the award with a former teammate in Mike Fiers. The right-hander with the Oakland A’s threw the second career no-hitter of his career last Tuesday. In Sunday’s 15-5 win over the Texas Rangers, Springer became the first player in Astros history to amass five hits and five runs in the same game.
The Astros will open up a three-game set tonight against the Detroit Tigers with first pitch slated for 6:10 pm.
