Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun pitcher Cody Brasch was selected by the San Francisco Giants with the 238th overall pick in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. Brasch joins Eric Nachtsheim of McNeese who was selected by the Giants earlier in the Draft.
A native of Haslet, Texas, Brasch transferred to the Cajuns in 2026 from Tyler Junior College. In his lone season in Lafayette, Brasch excelled in multiple roles. After being the closer and a high-leverage reliever early in the season, he transitioned into the starting rotation for a Louisiana club that would make a Regional Final.
He finished the season with 2.77 ERA across 74 and two-thirds innings of work. He had six saves and eight games started, showcasing his ability to fill multiple key roles throughout the season. Brasch totaled 82 strikeouts and opposing hitters only batted .197 against him.
After his breakout season, Brasch was named a second-team All-South Region selection from the American Baseball Coaches Association. Most recently, he and coach Matt Deggs were named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-Louisiana Baseball Team.
Brasch and the Cajuns finished the season with a record of 41-25 overall.
